Instructor Tips for Online Training
You are here: Home > Operator Info > Operator Education > Information for Trainers > Online Training
When preparing content for online learning, remember that 20 minutes of online learning is equivalent to a nominal hour of classroom training.  Therefore, plan your training to last no more than 15 to 20 minutes in one sitting.  If you need more time, organize your content into several self-contained modules each limited to one topic.

Consider integrating questions throughout the module, as well as at the end. This involves the learner.

Minimize text as it is difficult to read lengthy documents on a monitor. If using graphics, keep the file sizes small.  Consider that your audience will using modems and not everyone may not have a 56K modem.  If possible, the module should be supported by the major browsers (Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator).  If using sound or video clips, remember that they take up bandwidth. Keep page sixe below 70k.

It is recommended to pick a size of 800 by 600.  It is a good balance between screen size and is available to most viewers. Use a sans serif font.  Use a font that is supported by most browsers, such as Arial.
