quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) A system of procedures, checks, audits, and corrective actions to ensure that all design and performance, monitoring and sampling, technical and reporting activities, or other products are of the highest achievable quality.
quality of life A phrase that has many different meanings. Generally, quality of life is considered to be enhanced when hazards are removed and no adverse impacts are made on natural resources.

quench tank A water-filled tank used to cool incinerator residues or hot materials during industrial processes.
quicklime A material that is mostly calcium oxide (CaO) or calcium oxide in natural association with a lesser amount of magnesium oxide. Quicklime is capable of rapidly combining with water to form hydrated lime in an exothermic reaction. Also see hydrated lime.
